Lars practically inherited his later career path at his birth in 1973: As the son of Nation’s Cup rider Ulrich Meyer zu Bexten, raised on his parents farm in Herford, and surrounded by horses, it only came naturally that Lars also dedicated himself to show-jumping. He jumped the first courses with his pony “Flamme“, celebrated his first 1.45 m victory in the saddle of “Rodney“ in 1988, and won the Junior European Championships with the team aboard “Partisan“ in 1990. One year later, at only 17 years of age, Lars received the German Golden Riding Medal. In 1996 “Don“ carried him to his first Nation’s Cup victory.

After finishing high school, Lars attended university in the nearby town of Bielefeld. He graduated in business administration in 2001.

As official FEI-Tutor Lars has been responsible for the international trainer education and development since 2004. In his role as team manager, he successfully coached the equestrian team from Hong Kong at the China Games in 2009 and 2013, as well as at the Asian Games in 2010 and 2014. The master rider’s coaching expertise is in global demand. To date he has given courses and clinics in more than 30 countries and was a member of the German Olympic Committee’s national trainer team for show-jumping for several years. Beside his training and coaching, Lars markets highly talented show-jumpers and hunters. Many clients from Germany and from all over the world have found their perfect horse through Lars.

Lars likes to keep fit himself by playing sports, going running in particular. During his many travels, he is not only interested in equestrian matters but also always takes the time to get to know a different culture and its people.

Lars has been the German Friendships’ co-organizer since 1999; 2018 saw the official general management handover at the Bexter Hof. Going into the future, Lars wants to further improve the Bexter Hof as a training center and increasingly also offer clinics for students from Germany and abroad.
